Leaving a Legacy That Honors God and Family

Leaving a Legacy That Honors God and Family

Forrest Skaggs originally had a will and trust that split his estate between his two sons. But as time went on, he began to feel that some of what God had entrusted to him should also go toward furthering His work. After all, it is His money, not ours.

The challenge was figuring out how to bless both his sons and the Church—and in what amounts. About that time, Forrest attended a Bible class where Josh Douglas gave a presentation on how to gift money to both family and charity. He introduced them to a tool called a Charitable Remainder Unitrust (CRUT).

With Josh's guidance, Forrest created a CRUT that will be funded by his savings and the proceeds from the sale of his home. The trust will provide annual payments to his sons for a set number of years. After that, whatever remains will go to support the Church.

"The process was simple and deeply rewarding. I now feel at peace, knowing I am leaving a legacy that blesses both my family and the ministry of the LCMS." – Forrest Skaggs
